Kindred

Everyone scociety is different,and also as time passes it alsochanges. Many Societies are polite and peaceful, but other could be racist and oppressive. In the book “ Kindred ”the author Octivia Butler’s message is to not coform to social conditioning andto resist oppressio. Kindred is a story about a woman called Dana that can travel back o the 1800’s to save the life of a boy called Rufus Weylin. Rufus is a white boy who lives in the time period of slavery. His family,” The Weylins” are slave owners. Te Weylins are cruel and opressive to the slaves. Dana only gets to travel back in time when Rufus is in danger of dying. Dana is always there to save him and she also gets stuck back in time. Te only way that Dana can travel to he 1800’s and to her time period is by fainting.

“ Just a strange nigger. She and daddy both knew they hadn’t seen you before.’” Rufus said this quote because his parents told him that Dna felt verry hurt by the way his family knows African Americans. Tis is oe example of how your society changes you or expects you to be like. From some of my experiance, in my community you are expected to be like others in order to it in. In my opinion i believe that you  should be yourself instead of being how othersexpect you to be like. If you are trying to fit in with people who you don’t have much in commen or they do things that you think aren’t right don’t try to be like them because if they do accept you, they wouldnt be your real friends.

Rufus and his family has conformed to their society. I think this is true because in their society all white families are slve owners and treat slves worse than animals ! Since the Weylins had ancestors and societies that were slave owners, they thought that its was okay and the right thing to do. They also thought that whipping and raping slaves was normal and a correct thing to do. Rufus also tortured slaves because when Dana tryed to escape to go find her husban, she got cght and whooped. Rufus’s dad also hit her and kicked her face leaving her a scar. This Shows how white people would abuse African slaves if they didn’ follow te rules.

“ I Twisted sharply, he broke away from him. He caught me, trying not to hurt me. I was aware of him not to hurt me even as i raised t knife even as i sank it into his side.” This quote shows that since Dana was a slave Rufus thought that nothing was wrong with rapping Dana. Dana didn’t let herself get sexually abused so she fights back by killing Rufus with a knife. Since this happened Dana got transpoted to her time period(1900’s) and  Niggel, Danas friendburns the house so that nobody can know what actually happened to Rufus. This also shows hegemony because Rufus thinks he has more power since he is white and a man.

In closing of my idea i believe that we should  act and be the way we want to be the way we want to be. Not how other people expect us to be because being unique makes us different in our own ways. Acting like everyone else won’t take you anywhere so make your own actions and be the change you want to see.

Other people that are responsible for continuing this type of oppression are drug dealers and also when your friends offer you any type of drug or alcohol. Drug dealers are responsible for putting our community in danger because they are doing illegal things .

    This is a type of oppression because drug dealers don’t care if they sale drugs to minors. Drug dealers just sale drugs and only think about their money instead of thinking what can happen to the person who is doing the drug or how it can affect their lives. Friends that offer you drugs or alcohol can be described as oppressive because if they offer you drugs or alcohol constantly you can get over dozed and end up in a hospital or die. You can also become an addict to alcohol or drugs. People that use drugs or alcohol and are drunk or high may feel pain in their heads because they alcohol or drugs are killing brain cells and doesn’t let your brain send messages to your body.

Colleqe fOr all essay

One word that best describes my school is supportive. My school is supportive because when we have bad grades they make us do many things like make us stay after school, have special programs, and keep us on track with our grades. They also make us persevere when we are giving up on something. One great opportunity i had in school was being able to go to Washington D.C last year and also going camping in the beginning of the 7th grade.

One of my biggest struggles in school of all the times I got in trouble was  when I was in the six grade and me and three of my other friends were tagging in school property. We were in an after school program and an adult was with us. She saw us tagging and she was video taping us. She never told us to stop doing that or anything she was kind of encouraging us to do that. The school found out that we were tagging because some kinds from Achieve Academy told Ms.Bayardo and Ms.Bayardo told Mr.Guikema  then they came to us and we got in big trouble. They were checking everything that we had tagged and looked through our backpacks looking for the sharpies. We went to the office and we had to tell them the whole story and our parents got called. We had gotten a culture form and two week community service and also a long talk with our parents at home. The way I handled this problem was by saying the truth. This incident changed me because I haven’t tagged in any school property again. I took the action of saying the truth because if I lied I would have gotten in more trouble.

I think that college is a great opportunity to get the job you always wanted and to win money. No one of my family has went to college because in Mexico there wasn't enough money for them to go. College will connect to my family because I am going to be the first one in my family to be able to go college.

Individuals can liberate themselves by talking to their families about the problems that they have. Their parents can help them find programs that help people who are addicted to drugs. Their parents can also go through the steps with them so they would be able to gain more confidence. Individuals can incorporate joy into their lives by stop warring about getting drunk or getting high and they can enjoy things that they loved to do before like sports dancing or being with   their families. They can also incorporate joy by letting  go of all the bad things that have happened to then in the past. To enjoy the new things that will come up in their lives. We all must try and help all the people who are falling into addiction and the ones that are already addicts. We can help them in many ways like talking to them to taking them to a rehab would help them because there, they are offered help and things they can do that will keep them away from drugs and alcohol. We can also recommend them to stop hanging out with people who will offer them drugs and alcohol.
